I keep telling myself it's just a phase

A few days ago Luke was taking a 'nap', which on this day meant that he talked to himself for awhile in his bed and then got quiet, which fooled me into thinking he was sleeping. Much too soon thereafter he started whining in there and after waiting a bit to see if he'd go back to sleep I went in to fetch him. And found him surrounded by ripped up paper and large shards of glass. Apparently instead of sleeping he had pulled a picture frame off the wall, somehow managed to shatter the glass, and then shred the paper behind the frame. It took a minute for it all to sink in, it didn't take long to realize that dang kid could have killed himself. He was lucky to have come out of it with only a small cut on his foot. I spent the rest of the day feeling like the mother of the year.

You may notice in the picture that he has removed his shorts. That's a fun trick he picked up awhile ago. It used to also involve removing his diaper, which meant he would wake up in a puddle of pee, and there was constant sheet changing going on. So I started taping his diaper on, again, mother of the year. Luckily, for now he has stopped taking off his diaper. You may also notice that he has gnawed nearly every piece of the crib he can get his teeth on. It's mostly ruined. Not pictured is his continued love of climbing on the table and standing at the edge until I notice and come to get him, he thinks that's a great game. He also thinks it's good times to run into the street and run even faster when he sees me coming for him. He loves to open the T.V. cabinet and push every button he can get his fingers on, if he can remove a DVD, all the better. There's a child lock on it, but he notices EVERY time I forget to lock it. Another favorite pastime is walking up to people and kicking them in the shins. He's a magnet for shenanigans. I keep telling myself it's a just a phase. I say that a lot to myself. It may very well be a phase, this love of trouble and zero fear of the consequences, I just know that his brothers grew out of it much faster than he has. Which has me a bit concerned that this may just be his personality.

I think you're right, it's just a phase - a 20+ year phase if he is like most male offspring. I think the other two have just tricked you - they haven't grown out of it either, they are just better at hiding it! I'm glad that you are both still alive to tell us about your day - now you're going to have to come up with another wall decor idea that involves soft foam rubber.

The cute ones are always up to the worst shenanigans! I am glad he wasn't hurt- since I assume you wanted to strangle him. P,s. you are supposed to always be the one to tell me boys are quiet, mellow, and easy.....
