To add insult to somewhat serious injury, as I was finishing my cooking extravaganza last night, the power went out. This has been known to happen during lightning storms, and it always pops right back on. Last night we were not so fortunate. I sat there in the dark by myself for a bit before I came to the conclusion that the power was not coming back on. So there I was all alone in the middle of the vast, pitch black desert. It was kind of a horror movie moment. You know, the movie where the killer cuts all the power to the house and the dumb blond just sits there in the dark waiting for him to find her. With every lightning flash I was expecting to see a figure standing in the back yard. I read for a while by the light of a flashlight, and then went to bed. When I woke up, the power was still out. Lame! I called the power company, they said that several poles were down in the area and the power probably wouldn't be on until tonight. Double lame! I thought we could tough it out at home for a while, but by 8:00 am it was already becoming too dang hot for no air conditioning. And here is where the thanks come. THANK YOU Mande and Ian for letting Mitchell and I hang out at your house. You saved us! We spent most of the day at their house. Mitchell was not so much on his best behavior, he was having a toddler day I guess. I called the power company throughout the day and luckily the power was on much sooner than they had originally thought. So we were about to head for home when a crazy thunderstorm hit Blythe. Sheesh. We stood and watched rain pour, branches fall, and lawn furniture fly, and then their power went out. Apparently I have some sort of curse attached to me. Their power didn't come back on either. When Mitchell and I left they were still powerless. I told them they're more than welcome to come camp at my house, assuming my power stays on of course.

That is nuts. ID really is the land of few natural phenomenons. Excepting house fires, I guess.
Glad you had some friends to help you out.
And maybe you're one of those people who affect electrical currents. You know, the Unsolved Mysteries type.
and through it all, you managed to blog . . . you're a bloghero!
i agree with jayna--you are more powerful than you think--sorry it's following you in a bad way.
pretty creepy, all that stuff about watching for figures out back with each flash--we're waiting for a hurricane around here and i just did a mental runthrough of what it would be like to grab all of my kids from their beds in the night and hide in the bathtub.
hope there's still room in ID once we all can make it back there.
I'm just wondering what happened to all of the food you cooked with the intention of putting back in the freezer if the power was off for another 12 hours or so? Your food didn't even have time to get cold, let alone freeze before the power went out did it? I think this is a sign that you need to move back to Idaho.
OHhhh...now THIS is what I'm talking about! Getting all Photobucket crafty! LOVE the new look!
