Like it couldn't avoid it.

Last night I stayed up way too late watching 'The Birds'. It's been forever since I'd seen it, I'd forgotten the bad, cheesy special effects. And though it is not a scary movie, I found myself getting a little worried while watching it. Events in my life since I last watched that movie have changed the way I look at it. The first such event occured a few years ago while I was living in Yuma. I had just gone for a run on the jogging track in the park and I was cutting across the grass to go home. I was passing near a tree when suddenly a very angry bird flew directly at my head. This bird continued to bash against my head until I was well past the tree. I can only guess this bird had a nest in the tree and was trying to keep me away. That or my large head was just too tempting a target. The second event also occured in Yuma. I went to the bank and parked my car next to a tree. I got out and used the ATM and then went to get back into my car. I had my keys in hand ready to unlock and open my door, when it happened again! A very angry bird flying at my head! This time though I was trapped, fumbling to get my keys in the lock so I could escape to the safety of my car. Needless to say, things fluttering around me now make me a little nervous. And while I was watching the movie all I could think about was the fact that if I lived in Bodega Bay, I would be the first person to have their eyes pecked out.

Fluttering is evil. Things should just move in a decisive manner. Or not have wings at all. I am 100% sure I would not fear moths if they were ground-crawling insects. Then I would just hit them with a shoe like all the others. But they can give very rapid chase, and it makes them hideous. And my favorite line of that movie is "Oh, Mitch..." in her pathetic voice as she lays down to be slowly pecked to death instead of opening the door and going back downstairs. Two interesting things from this movie: Daphne Du Maurier wrote it, the author of Rebecca, and the main actress is Melanie Griffith's mother, who named her after the name of the character she plays, Melanie Daniels. That is all. Thank you.

It wasn't until I read your post and thought, "Hey, this is very much like a Seinfeld episode," that I realized your title is a direct quote. Good form. I'm trying to decide if you should stay away from birds or from Yuma. Tough call.

Well, I never thought my daughter would turn into a computer nerd, but your blog set up skills are to be admired. I guess there are advantages to living in the middle of the desert with not much to do. Your Picasa album is also quite nice. As far as birds, just do what your dad does to the swallows that try to build nests right at our front door - get out the BB gun! (Sorry tree huggers) I personally don't agree with that solution - but at least we didn't have bird poop everywhere and swooping birds around our heads for weeks on end. Mom
