Okay, the time has come to admit that I've failed. I planted this little garden with great hopes that we would soon have some lovely produce on our dinner table. In the two months since that time I've watched those poor little plants get eaten by grasshoppers, and mysterious white bugs. There's been plenty of watering, plenty of sun, and absolutely NO growth. Were I to show you a picture of my garden today, you would notice that the plants have not grown at all. Nothing has actually died (except for the carrots, but we won't mention those) but nothing has come anywhere near the point where it will produce anything. I'm a little sad. But, I've regrouped and come up with a battle plan. I think my soil mix is bad, so I'm getting rid of these plants, remixing, and starting over. I can only hope this works, I can't bear any more sad little plants.

I have no idea since you guys have a box garden, and ours went straight into good ole Idaho clay,,, that we had to rototill like 10 times and mix all sorts of crap (literally) into it to make it produce some onions.
At least you tried!
And the more I hear about AZ the more I realize you have far too many bugs there. Probably moths as well.
You're brave, I never would of even tried. But it doesn't look so bad in the photo.
If only I could type that sad bugle tune. Perhaps this time you could get an Ace employee with half a brain that doesn't give you mulch. If you would like me to go with you I would be happy to inspect your "compost" before you buy. Were your mysterious white bugs really tiny and flew in clouds? If so, white fly. They are such a pain in the hiney and oddly attracted to yellow. Anything yellow. Strange little bugs. I still say you string up a grasshopper as a warning to the others. Well I must get to bed. Early to bed right?
