I fear my child is codependent. He either can't, or refuses to, play by himself. I don't think it's anything I've done, I've always been all about independence and encouraging him to do stuff on his own. He's just not interested. He spends his day yanking on the hands of whoever will get close enough to grab. He hauls us all over the house. He's like my little shadow, everywhere I go, he goes. He'll entertain himself for a few minutes, but it never seems to last long, and then he's demanding a playmate. I really don't mind, it's just that sometimes I need to get something done, like clean, or blog (he's currently trying to yank on my hand as I type), or pee, and he's kind of an impediment to that. Right now I think we'll just take it as a compliment that he considers us the most interesting things on the planet, and remind ourselves that someday he'll be a teenager who doesn't want us around. I'm just hoping he grows out of it before college.

You think it's the age? I plop mine in front of the tv when I've had it and sneak away very quietly. No sudden movements. Usually doesn't help for long. I'm sure that goes on the list of naughty mommy behavior but there are worse things. I do a little happy dance when I can get her to paly with her little people or a puzzle. :P
I'm glad you put in the disclaimer of "It wasn't anything I've done." I think all mothers should have that made into stickers to slap on their kid every time they fall short of expectations...
Maybe you could try being less fun.
It won't be long before you guys will be up here for Christmas and he can drag Bumpa and me around - although I am sure he would still prefer you (or anyone with a cookie)
That is very sweet. But yes someday it will happen. My 5yr old wants nothing to do with mom. The min he wakes up he is out the door playing with his friends. even when I try to play with him it does not last long. Enjoy it while you can.
Your mom is rad. She called me today & after I hang up I realized I kept calling her Kelsey's mom. No big deal right?
