Huh?

I mean no disrespect to any current or budding artists, but can someone please explain to me why this is art? How am I creative if I take something that already exists (in this case some typewriter part) and make it bigger? I just don't see how that's creative and innovative. This sculpture is in the National Sculpture garden where Mitchell and I spent a little time waiting for the line at the National Archives to go down, it never did, so that will be a trip for another day. Incidentally, my short time in DC has taught me that there is a National everything; National Zoo, National Gallery, National Bonsai Collection. Yep, that's right, bonsai, those tiny Japanese trees. I bet you didn't know you were living in a nation that had a collection of those. I haven't seen them yet. I just can't imagine they'd be all that spectacular.

Today we had our first visit to the local ward. I have to say it was refreshing to be around people my age at church. An added bonus is that there are a lot of little kids, so Mitchell will have lots of kids to be naughty with in the foyer. In all ways this trip to DC just feels like an extended vacation and I'm hoping that my church life falls in line with that. If we're only here for 3-6 months, they can't give us callings right? Right?

In my expert opinion, this is not art. Thank you.

I'm so glad your ward is great- you deserve it!

I'm also jealous of all the national things you are seeing. I love bonsai trees.

Well, for your information from someone who is old enough to know - that was not a typewriter part - it's a typewriter print eraser - I used to use one if you can believe it. It was not that big however. I am glad that you are all enjoying the DC area - I am looking forward to our trip out to see you guys. I just hope you won't have a reverse culture shock when you have to go home to little ol' Quartzsite! Mom
