Our first anniversary!

This post has been a long time coming. What can I say, I'm a blogger slacker.

On March 5 Lee and I celebrated our first anniversary. So, it was actually our third anniversary, but since it was the only one that has closely resembled an anniversary, I call it our first. For our actual first anniversary Lee was at the academy, I believe we exchanged cards, or something equally lame. Our second anniversary was 5 days after Mitchell was born. We were too exhausted and shell-shocked to do much celebrating. We went to Rite Aid and got hemorrhoid treatment. How romantic. But, don't feel too bad, I think we stopped and got ice cream on the way home.

So this year we actually did something! My mom was visiting for Mitchell's birthday and she was nice enough to offer to watch him while we took a little vacation. She's a capable lady, so I felt good about leaving him for a bit. We just couldn't pick anywhere too far away, I didn't want to be away from him for too long. (Yes, I suspect that will change with more children) Eventually we settled on LA and Disneyland. We spent the first day in LA. I'm sure there are millions of things to do and see there, but we were fairly single-minded in what we wanted to do. Firstly, we had to visit the La Brea Tarpits because Lee had wanted to go there since he was a kid. Who am I to shoot down a childhood dream? It was not nearly as boring as I was expecting, I actually found myself mildly interested. Our next two stops were dictated by the Food Network and the Travel Channel. We'd seen a few shows about Pink's hot dogs, which is a little hot dog place that has been in LA since the 30's and all the celebrities supposedly go to. Every time Lee saw the hot dogs he would drool and exclaim he had to have one. Again, who am I to deny a dream? So we went to Pink's. Lee got some heart attack on a bun, which involved a hot dog and bacon. Why both? I don't understand the need for processed pig parts, but whatever. I got a hamburger but I also got their famous chili dog, which I took only one bite out of. Crazy celebrities. It was pretty nasty, but I did it just to say I did. We then took a little pit stop in Hollywood. I gotta say, I don't really care too much about all that Hollywood business, but we had to do something while the gross hot dogs were digesting. We went to Graumann's and looked at hand prints and a few weirdos and that was pretty much that. Then we were off to fulfill one of my dreams. Cupcakes! Again, we'd seen a show about cupcakes, and it featured Sprinkles bakery. Well, I saw that red velvet cupcake, and knew I had to have it. I gotta say, it was just as good as I hoped it would be. After cupcakes we were pretty much done for the day, so we headed to Anaheim.

The next day was spent at Disneyland/California Adventures. I know that place is supposed to be for kids, but I love it. I just love going to a place that's just supposed to be fun. It was the perfect day to be there, sunny with no lines. We're excited to take Mitchell there when he's older.

Our last day we decided to stop at the Redlands Temple on our way home. We were hoping to do a session, but since it's a small temple, they only do a few a day. But, we were able to do sealings. It's a very pretty temple, in a very pretty area. Too bad California is so expensive, it would be a nice place to live.

All in all, we gained ten pounds and had a great time. It was the most time we've spent alone in a year. It's nice to remember why I married the guy!

First of all, I'm so proud of you for taking so many pictures documenting your mini vacation! Second, don't ever put on a Jack Sparrow hat again!
:)Really cute. I"m so glad you guys got away! And it does get easier to leave children...soon you will dream nights about just leaving them...with anyone who will watch them! Happy 1st REAL anniversary! You deserve it! (And I'm glad that you still like the guy!)

I had fun visiting you guys and Mitchell. He is a cute baby and a fast learner! I think you should all move up to Boise and have Lee protect the border between Nampa and Boise. There are plenty of illegal aliens in Nampa!
Love, Mom
