Where face meets slide

Yesterday afternoon the older boys were playing out back.  I was inside with Luke when I heard a crash and some blood curdling screaming.  Sam had propped a small plastic slide up on our water table and decided to climb up it.  It fell and took him with it.  He whacked his face on the water table on the way down, sending his two front teeth all the way through his bottom lip.  So I ran outside to see a small child screaming and spitting blood through a hole that didn't used to be in his face.  It was a little intense for a bit.  Luckily the bleeding stopped pretty quickly and the crying shortly thereafter.  We headed for the urgent care near our house where I was told, "Oh, no, we can't do that here.  He needs to be sedated at the hospital, he needs a plastic surgeon."  Way to freak a mom out.  So we went to the E.R., where they were decidedly less concerned about it.  They cleaned him up, slapped a little glue and some tape on his wound and sent him on his merry way.  He was very brave and calm throughout.  Just another day in the life of Sam.  It was the only time I've sort of enjoyed waiting in the E.R.  It was nice to hang out one on one with Sam.  He's a funny guy.   His lip is already looking much better.  It will soon be just another scar to add to his growing collection.

Did you ask him to give you the tough guy face in the hospital bed or was that all natural?

GEESH that's DREADFUL, but I'm glad it's all going to be okay!

I remember sitting in the doctor's office with Ben as he sewed up the split in his head after his slide mishap. Oh brother. I'm glad that you were able to see the silver lining in the whole thing and enjoy your alone time with Sam. We are getting excited to see you guys and we will not have any slides to go down in our yard - I have no control over the parks in the area.

Not his beautiful moneymaker! But it's true, chicks dig scars...so I guess his handsome mug is still good. That is scary in the moment, isn't it? Especially when professionals seem put off by it! Yikes! Way to go Mama- the first in a series of boy mishaps, I'm sure! xoxo
